COMPLIMENTARY ADVOCATE VOL. 6, NO. 2 THEREARVIEWMIRROR Eveley EDUCATE CALEDONIA, ONTARIO www.therearviewmirror.ca International Corp. It’s all about innovation, quality products, reduced maintenance SPECIAL TO THE REAR VIEW MIRROR I n 1968 Nicholas Eveley opened Eveley Alignment and Spring at 2814 Barton Street East, Hamilton, Ontario. Over the years Eveley noticed that many of the previous suppliers of spring suspensions had numerous different designs and models, and some of the components were made from castings. In the early days these castings were mainly made in North America and were relatively readily available. However, over time castings became more of a challenge; as an imported item they were becoming increasingly more difficult and expensive to obtain. Throughout this time Eveley made mental notes of what he perceived as shortcomings or weaknesses of certain designs. Go idle-free with PowerStop Backing Up: Jim Pinder In the mid-1970s Nicholas Eveley bought the North American manufacturing rights and inventory of Noram, a European-based suspension manufacturer. This was his launch into the manufacture of spring suspensions. As he started to produce his own suspensions Eveley left the shortcomings behind in his new designs. The most important thing he changed was to start fabricating the components. This technique lessened his reliance on cast- ings. Fabricated parts were much better controlled, steel was readily available and quality control was right within his plant. About the mid-1980s, with 10 years of spring suspension experience Eveley started to work on an air ride suspension. continued on page 4 RECRUIT SPRING II, 2011 8 18 22 Nicholas Eveley (right) with Plant Manager and son, Wayne, with another steer axle ready for shipment.
